The Chronology of the Universe of Ethos
and the
Stories Within
One hundred years before the creation of RogueFox, there lived a scientist named Rhoze. He was a reclusive genius who lived northeast of Wolvennell with only his wife and young son to keep him company. He zealously studied the Malemifics of Ethosium, obsessed with the way that they had used the Shadows of Corrution as an energy. His love for science was only rivalled by his love for his wife, Tria.
It was near his son Tohmas's nineth birthday, though, that Tria fell deathly ill. Rhoze was distraught, and almost completely gave up his study of Malemifics, trying to find a way to save her. Try as he might, no cure he developed could save her. A few weeks later, Tria died. To Rhoze, it was as if all the light in the world had gone out in a moment, leaving him in nothing but darkness. To cope, Rhoze devoted all of his time to his research, even to the exclusion of care for himself or Tohmas. Nothing else mattered but his Malemifics.
Within a year, he had created a masterpiece, an almost perfect recreation of the devices, with some improvements. It was built as a fox, and could recharge its batteries from the sunlight or from living matter it consumed. It could run on either electricity or Shadows of Corruption, making it even more practical than the Malemifics. The only drawback was that Rhoze couldn't program a self-thinking mechanism for its brain, although he created a microchip that could grow and change on its own using bio-engineered DNA. The only solution he found was to insert the conscience of a human brain into the microchip of the robot.
Since Rhoze and his now ten-year-old son lived far from anyone else, Rhoze used Tohmas to complete his designs. Upon being transferred into the robotic fox body, Tohmas was appalled at what his father had done. He ran away, trying to come to grips with what had happened. How could his own father do that to him? But after years of neglect, Tohmas no longer knew his own father. How could he understand why his father did what he did?
And so Tohmas lived alone in the wilderness for one hundred years, never returning to his father's house even after his father had died. He lived that way until he met Wolf and Olivia on their journeys. At first he was shy, not having made contact with humans for one hundred years, but he quickly became friends with them, joining GreatBeasts. His ability to use the Shadows of Corruption as energy became a useful tool during the Shadow Infection, as he was impervious to the disease and could instead use it to his advantage.
Due to the fact that he no longer retained a human body, his digital brain had aged in a very peculiar way. While his innate maturity level was that of a ten-year-old, he was wise beyond most adults, and had a mental capacity beyond the limits of most humans. Connecting with others was tough for him, but his few friendships he did cherish closely.
